Different type of fencing can provide different levels of privacy, strength, durability and ease of maintenance. Within this the cost of the material and installation can vary quite widely.
The style of fencing best for you will depend on your needs, should you ideally have visibility through the fence then a picket fence or ‘venetian single slat’ fence would be appropriate. These always work well with garden gates to create a seamless effect. Since they have many gaps along the fencing they also allow lighting through for your garden so depending on which way your garden is facing and what else overlooks this they can help the plants in your garden get more light.
However, should you wish for more privacy then a close boarded fence may be more appropriate, it is a solid fence, which most would see as the ‘standard’ fence for a typical garden. The panels can be held by either timber or concrete posts, both are usually accompanied by a gravel board which sits under the panel to protect it from the potentially damp floor. As with the posts, the gravel boards are available as concrete or timber.
UPVC is now also an option for fencing, work well as gravel boards due to them not being a natural product they are very resilient against weather and damp conditions.
